What we can do to help

     I think there are many ways to help slowly stop sex trafficking in the world. One possibility of dealing with this situation is to raise money for more non government organizations. Another possibility is to help acknowledge that human sex trafficking is happening right now all around the world. Help educate the people that have no idea that  sex trafficking is even happening in the twentieth century, so that more people would get involved. Citizens should vote when possible, to make harsher laws for these types of crimes. Authorities can then make an example out of that person when caught, so when others see what the consequences are, they think twice about trafficking women and children. These possibilities might not put sex trafficking to an end, but every little bit helps to slowly stop this horrible act.

     Nicholas Kristof's story is very moving. I feel that his story gives more hope on getting the sex slaves free from the brothels. It is sad however for Srey Mom, he buys her freedom but at the end she decides to return to the brothel. I think she feels trapped, half wanting to leave the brothel and half wanting to stay because that is what she is accustomed to.Kristof's proposal was well thought out. (1) pressure on foreign governments to crack down on brothels with underage girls or those held against their will (Kristof). This is a great idea, more crack downs on brothels ,means more free sex slaves.  (2) promotion of condoms to keep prostitutes alive (Kristof). Promotion of condoms will lower their risks of getting a sexually transmitted disease. (3) above all, literacy and job programs to raise the status of girls and women(Kristof). This will make them more educated and ready for the normal workforce to be more respected in the community.

Sold

Before and after reading "Sold", I feel so heart broken for all those innocent children and women. There should be more agents in this world to investigate and find brothels, to free all the sex slaves. I do not know how these people can be so cruel to the extend that their actions are not human like. They should receive the utmost harshest penalty there is, and feel the pain that they have inflicted on others.

Nepal and India

        Nepal and India has things in common and things that contrast one another. Some similarities that they have are location (South Asia), religion (Hinduism and Buddhism), clothing, and the types of food they eat (rice).  Nepali people and Indian’s also have the similarity in manners, for instance, taking their shoes off when walking into one’s home.  The contrasting fact is the population size, Nepal’s population is in the millions, whereas, India’s population is in the billion. There is something special about each country. India has beautiful architectural buildings and Nepal has 8 of the world’s top ten mountains.

Class dicussion on freedom

     I feel that our lives are determined for us even before we are born. From who our parents would be, to what genes we would inherit. In addition, we have no choice on where we are born or who our siblings would be. We may feel that we have some sort of freedom to keep us sane, but in reality, we have no freedom. Freedom is choice, which in my opinion we don't really have. What we may feel that is a choice is really not one, because there are limitations from what you can choose. Choices should be made freely without limitations, but there are always limitations. Example: You live in a poor country that has only water and bread for you. You have a choice between the two, but honestly, you would rather eat meat. You have a choice, but there is a limitation on it because of where you live. Which to me, that shows that your life was already predetermined.

Arthur Garfield Hays's beliefs

Arthur Garfield Hays believes in freedom and expression of opinion, within legal boundaries. He believes that if people stay within the rules and regulations that are given to us, it would keep our nation safe and in order.

           

Hays has a good point on how we should voice our opinions but stay within boundaries. Without these limitations, our nation might be in chaos. People would express their opinions when ever and where ever they wanted. The affect of no limitations to freedom of speech would be consequences that one might not like. However, because of those limitations, most people will voice their opinions when and where it is appropriate. Without freedom and expression of opinion, our nation would not be where it is today. To me, we need limits and boundaries as much as we need freedom.
